Walking carefully between the floating leaves of water lilies is a delicate white egret in the tranquil waters of the Pantanal region, Brazil. These birds can regulate their body temperature by adjusting exposure to the sun and their own wings to control body heat. They are usually monogamous, forming pairs that remain together for several breeding seasons.
