Henequen agave in Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico
Those broad succulent leaves of Agave fourcroydes yield the henequen fibers that give the plant its common name. It’s used to make rope and twine, and, like the blue agave used to make tequila, the henequen agave is the main ingredient in licor del henequén, an alcoholic beverage made here in Yucatan and in nearby areas where henequen is farmed.
