Peak District, England
This dramatic skyline shows three of the four hills that make up the Great Ridge, one of the most popular upland walks in the Peak District, the United Kingdom's first national park. The ridge, which extends for about three kilometres, sits across the heart of the park in Derbyshire, England, and offers spectacular views across the Peak District.
The Great Ridge attracts hundreds of thousands of walkers each year and heavy footfall left its paths badly eroded. But the walking trail was recently restored using more than 500 stone slabs – lifted up the hill by helicopter. This will help to protect the surrounding landscape and bordering habitat, while also paving the way for new generations of walkers to enjoy the Peak District's breathtaking vistas.
