Info. Otter Cliffs, Acadia National Park, Maine, USA
Today we're visiting Acadia National Park on the coast of Maine in north-east United States. The park protects the natural beauty of the rocky headlands along the Atlantic coastline. In our photo, you can see the dramatic rock walls of Otter Cliffs, one of the most recognised geological features in the park. Rising about 30 metres above the sea, the cliffs are shown here at low tide – when the tide is up, that ledge at the bottom is completely submerged.
Otter Cliffs is very popular with rock climbers, who must begin by either abseiling down the cliff or being lowered from the top. At the bottom, waves crash against the seawall below the climber's shoes and water spray makes it slippery. From there, the only way out is up, back to the top of this stunning rock for breathtaking views out to the ocean.
