We’re flying over the wetlands of Maine in northeastern United States. Wetlands are an essential part of Maine's natural resources and play a crucial role in protecting healthy ecosystems. They filter our drinking water and provide a vital habitat for types of wildlife and vegetation. Wetlands also provide a natural barrier from storms, absorb flood waters and capture carbon from the atmosphere – all of which help to reduce the impact of climate change.
The forested wetlands in our image are near Moosehead Lake – the largest lake in Maine. As the lake’s name suggests, this area is a great place to see moose. The large animals are so common here, it is believed they outnumber people three to one. So there might be a moose or three hidden under those trees…
