Lighthouse at Kapu beach near Udupi, Karnataka

Kaup (Kapu in the Kannada language) is a small village near Udupi, about 40km from Mangalore. The lighthouse on this little beach was built over a century ago in 1901, to warn ships of the rocky coastline – and it is still operational today. You can go to the top (for a small fee) and get a breathtaking view of the coast. Because of the beauty of Kapu beach, it is a favourite with tourists, as well as movie production teams – both from Bollywood and Tollywood.
