These aquatic plants not only add a layer of natural beauty to shallow lakes and ponds but also act as a source of shelter and food for fish and wildlife. While water lilies have large leaves balancing on tall stalks, they can create drainage issues in freshwater habitats. There are at least 70 species of this plant spread out in tropical and temperate zones.
