There is more to these Rajasthani turbans than meets the eye. Like most other kinds of turbans, they keep the head relatively cooler in the desert heat of the day, and warmer during the cold of the night. The Pagri, averaging 9 meters long can also signify the wearer’s social class or regional identity within the state. People who work in the outdoors such as farmers tend to have bigger turbans to protect them from the elements. And then, the exhausted traveler could use his Pagari as a pillow, a blanket or even a towel!
